Virgil makes a dialectical meditation on the fruitlessness of classical culture and shows the pathetic fate of Aristotle and Plato and many others.. Virgil is thus reminding Dante that human knowledge is finite. They should just be content with the "quia", the 'what, of things and should not aspire to know the 'why' s.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
